The art

The 2024 Amsterdam Light Festival, themed Rituals, will illuminate the city from November 28, 2024, to January 19, 2025, celebrating both the holiday season and Amsterdam's 750th anniversary. Featuring 27 dazzling installations, the festival invites visitors to explore Amsterdam’s canals and streets lit up in stunning artworks that reflect the importance of rituals in human connection and cultural expression.

This 13th edition offers viewing by canal cruises or walking routes, with extended hours during weekends and holidays to give everyone ample time to experience the vibrant display. Highlights include the "Light Garden" in Hoftuin, which will host installations, lectures, and performances every Friday night in December. Additionally, visitors can enhance their festival experience with the Amsterdam Nightlife Ticket, which includes unlimited happy hours at venues like Hard Rock Cafe, making it easy to enjoy both the festival and Amsterdam’s lively scene this winter.

Walking route

Practical Info.

– In winter, you don’t have to wait long before the sun to set in the Netherlands. That means the lights get switched on at 5 pm in the afternoon. They will illuminate the city until it’s time to go to sleep, at 11 pm (except on NYE, the lights will be switched off at 8 pm).
– Check the weather before you head out! Wear gloves, and bring an umbrella as the Dutch weather also perfectly matches this year’s winter.
